Contribution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands for COP21 [fr]
Mr. Laurent Fabius, French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, welcomed the ambitious engagement of the Republic of the Marshall Islands in their national contribution in view of the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework on Climate Change (COP21) in Paris this December.
Read his statement below:
"I warmly welcome the publication by the Republic of the Marshall Islands of its national contribution with a view to COP21.
This contribution, which is the 47th overall and the first from a Small Island Developing State, on which climate disruption has had major impact, sends a strong signal to the international community.
This contribution intends to reduce emissions by 32% by 2025 and by 45% by 2030 compared with 2010 levels, as a result of growth in renewable energies. It also aims to reach zero net emissions by 2050.
I would like to recall that national contributions are one of the pillars of the Paris Climate Alliance."
