EU diplomats cycle for the climate in Palawan
Mr. Laurent Le Godec, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of France in the Philippines, joined European Union Ambassador Franz Jessen, German Ambassador Gordon Kricke and dozens of local cyclists and government officials for “Sikad Palawan,” a 200-kilometer bike ride in Palawan last April 28 to 30, 2018 as a symbol of Europe and the Philippines’ deep friendship and solidarity in the fight against climate change.
Organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Palawan, “Sikad Palawan” gathered cyclists for a three-day ride that began in El Nido and ended in Puerto Princesa by passing through the towns of Taytay, Roxas, and San Rafael. Cycling side-by-side, the European diplomats and Filipino bikers exemplified the long-standing values that continue to be shared by the European Union and the Philippines through people-to-people exchanges and through a shared advocacy for the environment.
Through “Sikad Palawan,” we also recall the active and collective engagement of Europe, France, and the Philippines in the global effort to address the alarming rise of the Earth’s temperature that has led to devastating consequences that affect us all. The fight against climate change remains an important area of cooperation and solidarity with the Philippines as all parties work towards the fulfillment of their national commitments within the framework of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
