Fête de la Musique 2016 [fr]

The first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21, 1982, upon the initiative of French Minister of Culture Jack Lang and Maurice Fleuret, the Director for Music at the French Ministry of Culture. It was a symbolic day marked by the summer solstice, the longest in the Northern Hemisphere, and would later become an unprecedented event « without a hierarchy of genres or practices », including the participation of all that is new.

Today, more than 120 countries all over the world celebrate Fête de la Musique. A symbol of freedom and creativity, the Fête de la Musique encourages the visibility and access to artistry and culture and for it to flourish in a public space, with the public and for the public.

The spirit of the Fête de la Musique continues on as it takes place for the 22nd consecutive year in the Philippines, where music is an integral part of the soul of the people.

Alliance Française de Manille, the Embassy of France to the Philippines, the Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines, in partnership with B-Side Productions, present the 22nd Edition of Fête de la Musique in Manila! The music festival will open simultaneously on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at both the A-Venue Mall Parking Lot and Greenbelt 3 Parking Lot, and will have day 2 on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Puerta Real Gardens in Intramuros.

Expected to celebrate along with these main stages are over 20 pocket venues around the Metro which will cater to all musical genres for a complete musical experience.

This year, the festival will be headlined by the Philippines’ finest bands and musicians such as Up Dharma Down, Kjwan, Pupil, Imago, Yolanda Moon, Bituin Escalante, Kat Agarrado (of Sinosikat), Gabby Alipe (of Urbandub), and many more.

Also joining us for this celebration is French singer, composer, and Youtube sensation, Nathan Zanagar. Nathan and his band will liven up the Makati Stages on June 18, 2016.

For 22 years now, Fête de la Musique in Manila has been showcasing the best that the Philippine music scene has to offer, in the spirit of the French ideals of liberty, equality, and brotherhood.

Come one, come all and let’s celebrate life through music!

You can call him ‘Le Jeune’. Nathan Zanagar is an eclectic, emotive and promising 22-year-old artist.

He started his music career in 2010 by writing ‘Hide and Seek’ for the original
soundtrack of the French movie "Chicas." In 2012, he took the internet by storm
with the viral hit ‘On vous quitte pour Free’ (We’re Leaving You for Free) and
has since launched his own YouTube channel with more than 1,800,00 views,
featuring various recorded covers showcasing his one-of-a-kind voice.

Since 2011, he has devoted himself to writing his own songs in his native
language. It follows a series of concerts in Paris in 2013, at the Nouveau Casino,
Petit Bain and Zèbre de Belleville. To date, he has written and laid down many
songs that translate beautifully live.

In late 2013, he recorded a cover of Sting’s "The Hounds of Winter," released
online in May 2014. It served as the soundrack to the show ‘Comment vous
racontez la partie’ (How You Talk the Game) by acclaimed playwright Yasmina
Reza, staged in November 2014 at Le Rond-Point, Paris and taken on tour
throughout France in 2015.

Following the track’s digital release, Nathan played three live dates in May 2014
in New York (including at the Bitter End), and in June in Copenhagen. He
displayed his versatility by singing most of his set in English (original songs as
well), with the occasional song in his native French.

In autumn 2014, he returned to the studio for the production of the french
project. He recorded his first pop-rock single "Le Jeune" (The Young), an ode to
youth that he wrote and composed himself. He also took a turn behind the
camera, directing the track’s strong and poetic video, released in April 2015.

Also appears on the single the song “Tour Eiffel” in a live version. Two Parisian
concerts followed, at the Baron and the Trois Baudets, and his most recent gigs
took him to London where he entertained crowds at The Old Queen’s Head and
the prestigious Proud Camden.

New singles are due to be released in 2016.
