Statement from the Deputy Spokesperson of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (30 December 2021)

Following the damage caused by Super-Typhoon Odette (Rai), which has claimed nearly 400 victims and displaced tens of thousands of people in the Philippines, France stands alongside the Filipino people.

In order to respond to the most urgent needs of the population and to reinforce the efforts of the Philippine authorities, the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, through its Crisis and Support Center (CDCS), is mobilizing 1 million euros of emergency aid to support the actions undertaken by the French NGO ACTED and the French Red Cross, with its partner the Philippine Red Cross. This aid includes the distribution of several thousand family and hygiene kits, as well as material for the emergency rehabilitation of destroyed or damaged houses in the provinces of Surigao Del Norte, Palawan, and Bohol.

In addition, and in response to the UN appeal, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has decided to allocate 1 million euros to the World Food Programme (WFP) and to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
