Last October 28 in Los Baños, Laguna, French Ambassador Nicolas Galey attended the investiture of the new director of SEARCA, Dr. Glenn B. Gregorio, in the presence of Education Secretary Leonor Briones.
Established in 1966, SEARCA is a regional organization engaged in the development of research and education programs in the field of agriculture.
Dr. Gregorio, who assumed office on May 1, 2019 as SEARCA’s 11th director, is an academician at the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) of the Philippines. He holds a PhD in Genetics from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, and has been recognized for his work as a rice scientist with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), where he was affiliated for 30 years. Throughout his career, Dr. Gregorio has bred more than 15 rice varieties and has led efforts to develop micronutrient-dense rice varieties to address anemia and malnutrition in Southeast Asia.
SEARCA is a partner of Agreenium – France’s Agricultural, Veterinary and Forestry Institute.
