French National Day celebration in the Philippines [fr]

On July 14, the National Day of France, French Ambassador to the Philippines Thierry Mathou led the 228th year commemoration of the French Revolution, a historical event which inspired people and movements in countries all around the world, including the Philippines. Today, France and the Philippines have deepened their cooperation in all aspects, 70 years after the Treaty of Amity was signed to formally establish diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1947.

“While growing steadily throughout the decades, our relations have entered a “golden age” in recent years with the exchange of several high-level official visits, including the first ever visit of a French Head of State to the Philippines in 2015. This momentum has allowed us to further deepen and diversify our partnership, which is now global,” Ambassador Mathou said as he offered a toast with Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, representing President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Almost 700 guests from the Philippine government, the diplomatic corps, the private sector, civil society, the cultural circles, and the media shared good food, good music, and good company “à la française” side by side with the French community in celebration of the long-lasting friendship between France and the Philippines.
