French film “Souvenir” opens Cine Europa 20 [fr]
France, which celebrates its 70th year anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Philippines this year, has the honor to open the 20th edition of Cine Europa on September 16, 2017 with the French film “Souvenir” directed by Bavo Defurne and starring Isabelle Huppert.
Isabelle Huppert is Lilian, a former rising star encouraged by a young boxer to once again pursue her passion in singing. This story of self-realization is relatable to Filipino audiences, who are also known for their love for singing and the sport of boxing.
With free public screenings from September 17 to 26 at the Shangri-La Plaza in Manila, Cine Europa offers the occasion to discover the best of contemporary European cinema and to rediscover classic European films. France’s second entry is “Jules et Jim” by François Truffaut (1962), a story of friendship across borders at the turn of the 20th century. The screening of this French film is a tribute to Jeanne Moreau, an icon of French cinema who passed away in July 2017.
Cine Europa 20 is presented by the Delegation of the European Union in the Philippines, the European Union member states’ embassies and consulates, and the Embassy of Norway.
