Statement on the signing of the Paris Agreement by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
The Embassy of France in the Philippines welcomes the signing of the Instrument of Accession to the Paris Agreement on climate change by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on February 28. This new step paves the way for the Philippines to join the 133 other countries that have ratified the Paris Agreement so far.
This is indeed a positive development that symbolizes the active role of the Philippines in the global fight against climate change.
France has long recognized the Philippines’ contribution to international climate negotiations as a member of the Climate Vulnerable Forum, as well as to the success of the Paris Climate Conference in December 2015.
It was during the state visit of French President François Hollande to the Philippines in 2015 that the Manila Call to Action on Climate Change was launched to rally the support of the international agreement for the conclusion of a universal and legally-binding agreement on the climate.
We look forward to the eventual concurrence of the Senate of the Philippines.
